Pre-Hospital Capnography

Rating 0.0/5 (0 vote)

Capnography is increasingly being used by paramedics to aid in their assessment and treatment of patients in the prehospital environment.

Capnography is a noninvasive method for monitoring the level of carbon dioxide in exhaled breath (EtCO2), to assess a patient's ventilatory status. A true capnogram produces an EtCO2 value as well as a waveform.

Capnograms are useful for ensuring proper endotracheal tube placement. Capnography also helps clinicians diagnose specific medical conditions (Asthma, COPD), make treatment decisions, and assess efficacy of code efforts and predict patient outcomes.
