The Orleans Fire Department is a contributing member of the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team (BCTRT). Currently, we have five members who actively participate on the BCTRT team. These members are trained in confined space rescue, high angle rope rescue, trench rescue and underwater search and recovery.

These members train several times a year with other members of the BCTRT team at the Barnstable County Fire Training Academy.  Furthermore, The BCTRT must get audited by rescue specialist to verify they are keeping up with their skills.

The Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team was organized by several local communities to provide specialized rescue to the Barnstable County area. This team is made up of over 60+ members from all towns within the Barnstable County Region.

The BCTRT regional team was formed in 2012 by the Barnstable County Fire Chiefs Association. Funding for the BCTRT is provided through grants obtained by the Barnstable County Fire Chiefs Association by the Department of Homeland Security. Since forming the regional team in 2012 the Barnstable County Fire Chiefs Association has been awarded over $600,000 in funding to support the operations, and training of this regional team.
